Enjoyed the new podcast. But when it got to the part about how Jen was saying that all she needs is new gear to get images.. and the rest could be covered with a simple camera class, etc.

I can't tell you how much this angers me. Not at Jen, but that this mentality has been put forth by the freakin' camera manufacturers. It implies that it's all about the gear and the photographer has very little to do with it.

The gear isn't anywhere near as important as you all seem to think. I've got some of the best images of my career from a simple point and shoot. Perpetuating this myth is really sad.

I know what I'm talking about. You can view some of my own work here:

Most of the images in this slide were shot with a little point and shoot Panasonic LX3. Others where a Nikon D300

This appears to be a repeat of the last episode. Maybe there is a bad link.

BTW love the show.

Thanks for a mention in the show! I'll have to agree with Skip that too many people think that if they buy more and better gear, they'll get better images, which isn't at all true. In my book (http://www.OnTravelPhotography.com) Tip #1 is "It's not about the camera." Saying a camera "takes" great photos is like saying that a set of pots and pans made a great meal or a guitar played a great song. People take pictures, cameras don't! The main way to improve one's photography is by developing your photographic eye, and I don't necessarily believe that you have to be born with a good eye, it can be learned, and that's exactly what my classes and tours are about, so they're open to photographers of all levels, no matter the type of equipment they own. Our trip to Egypt will cover a lot of this.

Hey guys! (And gal.) Wow, my second mention in TWiT. (Wow, your show's acronym is TWiT. Very close to Twitter. Was that intentional?) One more and I'll start demanding a guest spot one of these days. ;-)

It was funny coz I was listening to Jen Leo talk about working as a mascot, and was thinking to myself, "Hey, a fellow travel writer/blogger/Tweet-er who's been through what I'm going through!" THEN Gary goes and talks about me, which was, well, AWESOME. Certainly brought a big smile to my face as I was listening to the podcast.

I do have a bone to pick, though: Y'all keep pronouncing my family name wrong! it's RAW-bless. Though at this point, I think more people think it's ROW-balls, so maybe I'll just switch it to that. :-P

Anyway, love the show! Keep on keepin' on!
